Wounded Dove

WoundedDove-cover.jpg

Wounded Dove is the true story of an immigrant family’s determination to have a life in a nation of opportunities, of a child’s battle to survive a polio epidemic, of a physically disabled girl struggling to gain acceptance, respect, and confidence, of a young woman’s search for love and a life purpose, and of a mature woman’s challenge to face the effects of her life choices. Faith, hope, forgiveness, perseverance, family, and love help the wounded dove to survive and thrive.

About the Author

Virginia Heslinga, Assistant Professor of Humanities and Education at Anna Maria College, has been collecting historical stories since childhood. She has given researched talks on historic characters, holidays, events, New England towns, and led a variety of ghost walks. Stories, factual or fanciful, capture minds and hearts. In her over 30 years of teaching in America and overseas, Virginia has found that even cross culturally, stories have incredible power to entertain, reveal, and inspire.  Although she has been writing since she was a child, she still sees herself as a teacher who writes rather than as a writer who teaches. Wounded Dove is Virginia’s first published book. After her dissertation is completed in 2009, that will become another book. Many more projects are ahead.
